Earnings-related pension insurance regardless of nationality

Are you working as a summer employee in Finland this summer? Your employer must take out pension insurance for you even if you are working for a short time and regardless of your nationality.

Your employer must take out pension insurance under the Employees Pensions Act (TyEL) if

  • you are between 17 and 68 years, and
  • your wage is at least €58.19 per month.

The same rules apply to all employees, including summer employees.

It does not matter what your nationality is. If you are a foreigner working as a summer employee in Finland for a Finnish employer, your employer must take out pension insurance for you.

Your employer selects from which pension insurance company it takes out your pension insurance. You can check the website of the pension provider that you are insured with for more information on the pension insurance.
