Social security agreement

The social security agreement is an agreement between countries which includes rules on the entitlement to social security benefits for persons who move between the countries. The agreements aim to

  • secure the continuation of social security coverage when moving from one country to another
  • prevents situations where the persons has to pay double social insurance contributions or has double social security coverage.

Finland has concluded social security agreements with the United States, Canada, separately with its state of Quebec, Chile and Israel.

Between Finland and the other EU/EEA countries as well as Swiitzerland the EU Regulation is applied.
