Security when your work capacity is ebbing away
Disability pensions are
- the cash rehabilitation benefit (temporary disability pension)
- the partial cash rehabilitation benefit
- the full disability pension
- the partial disability pension.
If you become ill and cannot continue working even by means of rehabilitation
or assistance, you may be entitled to a disability pension.
It is possible to retire on an old-age pension between the ages of 63 and 68.
If the person becomes incapable of work after turning 63 years, he or she is
granted an old-age pension instead of a disability pension.
The age limit for the disability pension is 18 years. The applicant is
required to have been in employment.
The qualifying conditions for the disability pension are mainly the same in
all lines of business. There are some differences in the details of state and
local government employees’ pensions as compared with the private-sector
employees’ disability pensions. Some public-sector employees born before 1948
are still also entitled to an individual early retirement pension. The
individual early retirement pension is intended for persons with a long work
history whose work ability is reduced to the extent that it is no longer
reasonable to require that they continue working.
Amount of the disability pension
According to changes in the 2005 pension reform, a lump-sum increase is
made to the disability pension when it has been paid out without interruption
for five years. The increase is paid for the first time in 2010. The younger the
recipient at the onset of disability, the larger the increase. Pension
recipients between the ages of 24 to 55 are eligible for the lump-sum
increase.
You will receive personal advice and an estimate of the amount of the
disability pension from your own authorised pension provider. In addition, the
Finnish Centre for Pensions and the local offices of the Social Insurance
Institution (Kela) give advice in pension matters. From the external link below,
